I have practised as a counsellor/ psychotherapist for over 15 years.
In addition to my private practice, I am also currently employed by the London Fire Brigade as a Staff Counsellor providing counselling sessions to their employees.
I am also an “Associate Counsellor” for an Employee Assistance Provider as well.
In the recent past, I worked as part of a Holistic Therapy Service team providing counselling to clients who were trying to break the cycle of various types of addictive behaviours. I also worked for 6 years for a counselling charity, providing long term or short-term counselling sessions on a huge range of issues.
I have also worked as part of an NHS, IAPT Specialist Bereavement service. I provided counselling sessions to clients affected by the sudden death of a close relative. Death may have happened accidentally, by suicide or by drugs overdose.
Additionally I have worked as a counsellor in a secondary school and worked as a counsellor for an adolescent’s only counselling agency in Hertfordshire for almost ten years.
My core counselling orientation is Person Centred based on the theories of Carl Rogers, an American psychologist. What does this mean for you in my practice?
It means that I view everyone as unique. You have your own range of individual experiences which are unique to you. My role is to try to fully understand you from your perspective. It is my wish that if I can offer you a space where you are heard without judgement, and with deep empathic understanding. If we can achieve this together, you will feel understood and secure enough to begin to gain self-acceptance and to find within you the solutions to your anxieties, fears and dilemmas.
In addition to talking face to face, I can also offer you the opportunity to draw, or other forms of creativity. Sometimes words alone cannot fully or accurately express exactly what you are feeling. Using a creative medium can help us to access unconscious thoughts or buried memories.
I do not tell you what to do, offer advice or direct your sessions. I follow at your pace and you decide what you wish to explore during the course of the sessions.
I am warm, gentle and kind with a good sense of humour as well.
